| GAP - Accelerating graduate success |
|
Accelerator’s Graduate Accelerator Programme, GAP, has proven itself to be a cost-effective integration and development programme for graduate intakes - building soft skills upon existing foundations of technical expertise.
“Soft skills are known to make 80% of the difference in career success, so it’s important that we instil the value of these skills in the graduate culture from the earliest opportunity,” says Naomi Kesterton, consultant at Accelerator.
The programme assesses each graduate’s current position on joining the company, at an intense Development Centre to kick off the project. Having identified areas for development, Accelerator formulates a ‘diet’ of modules to help the employee best reach their potential. “The assessment also provides valuable information to feed into one to one coaching sessions that challenge self-awareness – a vital part of any personal development journey,” Kesterton highlights.
A blend of highly participative work simulation exercises, interviews and assignments are all evaluated at regular intervals with feedback taking a pastoral approach. This helps to ensure that issues are flagged and targeted well before the graduate’s signing off from the programme.
The programme complements in-house job rotation schemes, and aligns with the competencies that each company regards as being paramount for their market sector. To find out more about the Graduate Accelerator Program, contact Heidi Daniell on 0845 260 6886.

| Fit for Leadership in pole position |
|
|
‘A leadership course with a difference’ is just one of the quotes from delegates on the recent Accelerator Fit for Leadership programme. Another saw it as ‘A real, live example of what can be achieved by balancing health with mental and emotional well being’. Delegates felt that the different elements combined together to give a real focus on their own leadership development. John Collins, a director from Angel Trains, summed up the feeling of many when he said ‘It made me think and resonated with me more than any other course I have attended before’.
Then next programme dates are 29th April, 4th June and 22nd July 2010

| Economic downturn not all gloomy for training companies |
|
|
Heidi Daniell, Director of Accelerator Solutions says that, despite the economic downturn, companies are still investing in training. ‘Companies are looking closely at cost and how the results will strategically impact their business’ Heidi said. ‘There’s a fine balance between those that seek fast results and those that appreciate that management training is a long term investment. In addition, off-site training is being requested by an increasing number of chief executives. There are no distractions, so they stay more focused and therefore the training is more beneficial’.

Lewis Hopkins ended his 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season at Brands Hatch on 3/4 October with two points-scoring finishes, securing a place in the championship Top 10 in his first season. 20-year old Lewis, son of Accelerator director Henry Hopkins, has been part-backed by Porsche this season, as a winner of the inaugrual Carrera Cup Scholarship.
‘I can't believe the season's over already' said Lewis. ‘It's been a fantastic learning experience, my pace has increased throughout the season and I'm happy enough to finish inside the Top 10. I hope to have the chance to do another full season next year if we can secure the right backing'.
The 2010 Porsche Carrera Cup GB kicks off at Thruxton on April 3/4, alongside the British Touring Car Championship. More details can be found at www.lewishopkins.com.
